Getting started

Connect an AI app

FinTarget has one hosted MCP address. Point an AI app at it and sign in when asked, with the same account you use on fintarget.app:

https://www.fintarget.app/api/mcp

Every app below connects to that same address. Pick yours and follow its steps. There is no file to edit and no key to copy.

1
Open Claude Desktop and go to Customize → Connectors.
2
Choose Add custom connector and paste the FinTarget address:
https://www.fintarget.app/api/mcp
3
A FinTarget page opens. Sign in with your email and password or with Google, enter your two-factor code if you have one turned on, then choose Allow access.
4
Start a new chat. Claude asks for your approval the first time it uses a FinTarget tool. Try “What is my net worth in AUD?”

By default the connection is read-only. If you tick “Also let this app add records” on the consent screen, the app can also add records such as expenses and income, and undo or correct what it added. It can never edit or delete the records you entered yourself.

What happens when you connect

The app registers itself
FinTarget lets apps register themselves, so you never create a client ID or secret.
You sign in to FinTarget
The app opens a FinTarget sign-in page. Use your email and password or Google. If you have two-factor authentication on, you enter your code too.
You approve access
The consent screen names the app, lists what it can read and has a box, unticked, to also let it add records. Leave it unticked for read-only access. Choose Allow access to finish, or Deny to refuse.
The app gets a short-lived token
Access tokens last 15 minutes and renew on their own. You can disconnect any app at any time.

Try it

  • “What is my net worth in AUD, and how much of it is in each portfolio?”
  • “How much did I spend on groceries and eating out last month compared with the month before?”
  • “Which of my holdings are down the most, and when are the next ex-dividend dates?”
  • “Summarise the 2025-26 financial year: income, dividends with franking credits and super contributions.”
  • “Are any of my budgets over, and does anything need my attention?”

Troubleshooting

SymptomLikely fix
The app cannot connectLikely fixUse the address exactly as shown, including www. Access tokens are issued for that address only.
It asks for a code after you sign inLikely fixExpected when two-factor authentication is on. Enter the code from your authenticator app.
An app that worked has stoppedLikely fixChanging your password or resetting two-factor authentication disconnects every connected app. Connect it again.
An app says the connection is read-onlyLikely fixOpen Settings, then Security, then Connected apps, and choose Disconnect. Connect the app again and tick Also let this app add records.
You want to remove an appLikely fixOpen Settings, then Security, then Connected apps, and choose Disconnect.
