Dividends

Dividends records every payment from the shares you hold, with franking credits. Each dividend also creates a matching income entry, so your income totals stay complete.

Add a dividend

  • Enter the portfolio, ticker, ex-dividend date, payment date (optional), shares held, dividend per share and franking percentage from 0 to 100. Mark it as DRP if the dividend was reinvested.
  • After you type more than two characters of a ticker, FinTarget fetches its latest dividend automatically.
  • Each dividend creates an income entry in the form TICKER dividend · Portfolio · date. Editing the payment date moves the income entry, and deleting the dividend removes it.

Franking credits

The franking credit is the dividend times the franking percentage times 30/70, which is the Australian gross-up at a 30% company tax rate.

A 70.00 dividend that is 100% franked carries a franking credit of 30.00, so the grossed-up amount is 100.00.

Keeping dividends up to date

  • Automatic. Each day FinTarget checks the last 10 days for new dividends on your ASX, BSE and NSE holdings and adds any it has not recorded. It never removes anything.
  • Sync Dividends. This button looks back two years, replaces every synced dividend and keeps the ones you added by hand. Eligibility is the shares you held on the ex-dividend date.
  • Source. Each row is marked synced or manual, so you can tell where a figure came from.

A manual dividend and a synced one for the same event can both exist, because the source is part of each record. Delete one if you see a duplicate.

Troubleshooting

SymptomLikely fix
A recent dividend is missingLikely fixThe data source may not have published it yet. The daily check picks it up once it appears, or run Sync Dividends.
Franking shows 0Likely fixSynced dividend data carries no franking information, so synced dividends start at 0%. Edit the dividend and enter the franked percentage from your statement.
The amount looks wrongLikely fixCheck the shares held on the ex-dividend date. A trade after that date does not count toward it.
