Getting started
Getting started
This takes you from a blank account to a dashboard with real numbers in it. Each step stands alone, so add the parts you need and skip the rest.
Create your account
Go to the sign-up page and enter your name, country of residence, email and a password, or choose Continue with Google. Email sign-ups get a confirmation email from hello@fintarget.app. Open the link in it and select the confirm button.
Set your currency
The first time you sign in, FinTarget asks for your default currency and, if you want one, a second currency. You can pick from AUD, USD, GBP, EUR, INR, NZD and CAD. Both can be changed later in Settings.
Check your financial year
The financial year starts in July by default. To change it, open Settings and set Financial year start.
Add a portfolio and your holdings
Open Portfolio and create a portfolio with a name and an exchange. Choose Add Stock to enter a ticker, the number of shares and your average cost. To add many at once, use Import CSV with the columns
ticker,shares,avg_cost. An import takes up to 500 rows.Log income and expenses
Open Income or Expenses and add an entry with an amount, a date and a category. You can also import a CSV from your bank, or a PDF statement on the Expenses page, and review the rows before anything is saved.
Turn on the optional features
Gift cards and Fixed deposits are off until you switch them on in Settings under Features. Super appears in the sidebar when your default or second currency is AUD.
Prices show at cost for a moment while live prices load, then update. Holdings with no live price keep showing their cost.
Once you have data
- Overview shows income, expenses, net savings and portfolio value for the dates you pick.
- Analytics charts your net worth over time and builds a tax year summary.
- Notifications can warn you about large price moves and upcoming ex-dividend dates. Turn them on in Settings.
Next steps
- Connect an AI app. Ask ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Cursor or Grok questions about your own data.
- Security and sign-in. Turn on two-factor authentication.
- All features. Read how each page works.
